How to add a video resume link to your CV

4 min read

A video resume link only works if it's placed somewhere a recruiter will actually see it in the few seconds they spend scanning your CV — and if it's obvious enough to click without explanation.

Where to put it

Right next to your contact details, at the top — same line as your email and phone number, not buried in a "portfolio" section near the bottom. Recruiters scan the header first; if the link isn't there, most won't go looking for it later in the document.

Example:

Jane Kumar  ·  jane@email.com  ·  (555) 012-3456  ·  🎥 30-second intro: jikoreel.com/v/aB3xQ9

Label it clearly

Don't just paste a bare URL — say what it is. "Video intro" or "30-second intro" next to the link tells a recruiter exactly what they're about to click and roughly how much time it costs them, which matters more than it sounds like it should.

Keep the video itself short

30–45 seconds is enough for this to work. A link next to your contact info implies a quick watch — if it opens into a three-minute video, some recruiters will bail immediately rather than commit the time.

Use a link, not a QR code, for a digital resume

QR codes make sense on a printed resume or business card, where there's no way to click. On a CV that's already being read on a screen — email attachment, LinkedIn, an applicant portal — a plain clickable link is one step faster than making someone pull out their phone to scan something.

Make sure it plays instantly

A link that requires signing in, installing an app, or waiting through an ad before playback starts loses most of its audience before the video even begins. It should open straight to the video, in a browser tab, on the first click.

Record your video resume on Jikoreel — get a link that opens straight to playback, no account needed to watch. First 45 seconds free.
